Join us October 15 as we begin a three-week GPS (formerly Adult Ed) offering in honor of the 500th anniversary of the Reformation. GPS meets Sundays at 9 am in Room 3.

October 15 and 22 Dr. George Marsden will be presenting “Mixed Blessings: Protestantism and American Culture.” Historians have long recognized that Protestantism has had an unusually large role in shaping the culture of the United States. Some have claimed that early America was a Christian society and a model toward which we might return today. By way of contrast, some Catholic historians see Protestantism as the source of most of the relativism and fragmentation in the world today. The reality is mixed. In this discussion, we will try to sort out the positive and negative factors. We will also consider how the American experience has reshaped Protestantism. What might be a constructive response to the current fragmented situation?
