COS is offering African Drumming Classes this winter and invite you to join. Classes will take place during 4 Saturdays (January 20 and 27 and February 3 and 10) from 10-11:30 am. Our instructor is Leah Ivory, a local musician and teacher who has studied drumming in Africa and the US. The classes are free and drums will be provided. To sign up, contact Joel Westmaas.

Here’s some information to know:

– COS has at least 12 drums available to loan to students for the month of classes.  More can be found if we need them…you do NOT need to own a drum to participate in the classes!

– You are welcome to invite additional students to join us.  Other family members, COS members and friends are welcome!  You can simply ask that they email me with a request and I will respond to get them on the class list.  Students must be at least 13 years old, and should be able to commit to attend all 4 classes.

– Ideally, we want to have “graduates” of the class help to bring more drumming in African styles to COS worship.  As a drumming student, we hope that you would be willing to work with us on this after the class ends.

Looking forward to seeing you in January! Asante sana!
