A note from the exec team of council:

‘You are the salt of the earth.  But if the salt loses its saltiness, how can it be made salty again?’ (Matthew 3:15)

The disturbing political events of this past week in the United States have caused us to wonder as Christians how we may be salt and light again.  Grasping for power and invasion of property has never been the way of Jesus.

Abraham Lincoln recognized that even as the Civil war was a conflict between the North and South concerning slavery, it was also a conflict about God.  He said of the two sides: ‘Both read the same Bible and pray to the same God, and each invokes His aid against the other … The prayers of both could not be answered.  That of neither has been answered fully.  The Almighty has His own purposes’.  (Abraham Lincoln ‘Meditation on the Divine Will’)

We recognize that there are Christians who stand on both sides of the political divide and recognize how important it is to seek ‘The Almighty God’ who has His own purposes so that our distinctive functions as salt and light may remain potent, transcending political alignments. We invite you to participate in a prayer walk on our nature trail on the COS grounds.  (The nature trail begins at the front entrance of the parking lot where the birdbox is). Throughout the trail, there will be numbers posted. You will connect these numbers to the different prayer prompts in the prayer guide.

The prayer walk may be done in your own time and as you are able.  The nature trail does have patches of ice currently on it so if you do not feel confident on rough terrain, we encourage you to pray these prompts in the comfort of your own home. You can find the prayer prompts HERE:

The prayer walk culminates in reading the characteristics of Kingdom citizens as found in the beatitudes. These intensely practical qualities are intended to be put into practice, otherwise, we become like the foolish one who builds the house on the sand. Please join us in prayer. As we meditate on kingdom qualities, may we preserve our distinctive salt and light calling in a world where deep chaos abounds.

For those unable to walk the grounds at this time, you may follow along with the prayer walk using the video below:
