Psalm 95: If Today You Hear God’s Voice (David Haas, found in Gather Comprehensive 2, 51)
Psalm 95 was the lectionary Psalm for Sunday. Most settings of this Psalm lean heavily toward the “come, let us sing to the Lord” and “come, let us worship and bow down” parts of the Psalm. This being Lent, I appreciated this setting that asks listeners not to harden their hearts like the Israelites did in the wilderness.
Behold the Lamb of God (from Handel’s Messiah)
Throughout the year, the choir has been singing portions of Handel’s Messiah at liturgically appropriate spots in our services. This week we replaced the usual Lenten “Agnus Dei” (“Lamb of God that takes away the sins of the world, have mercy on us”) with Handel’s “Behold the Lamb of God.”
Holy Gift of Love (from Mongolia, found in Global Songs for Worship, 22)
One of my new favorites. The choir loves it and it seems the congregation is beginning to own it as well.
